Another great thing about futon mattresses- when they get compressed from sleeping on them, even with the weekly flipping and rolling, it's recommended that you beat them. With a plank, tennis racket, or, in my case, a wooden katana, since that's the sturdiest thing I could find around the house. And you know what? It works great! It's also pretty fun as well.

I can't tell if that sounds more like the best stress relief ever, or an involved martial arts class- beating the hell out of something padded with a katana. Fabulous.

It's alarmingly stress-relieving. I'm afraid there's no art to my method; I just go thwack-thwack-thwack on it until my arm hurts and it looks fluffier. Being as it's cotton and a heavy cover, there's not much you can do to it to hurt it.
